How Wattalife handles your information.

Wattalife respects readers’ privacy and collects as little personal information as is reasonably possible while still operating a functioning website. This page explains what is collected, why, how it’s used, and what choices readers have.

Information collected automatically.

Like most websites, Wattalife automatically collects basic technical information when readers visit, including:

  • IP address (often anonymized)
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Pages visited and time spent on the site
  • Referring website (the site you came from, if any)
  • Approximate geographic location based on IP address (typically country and region, not precise location)

This information is used to understand how the site is being used in aggregate, to identify and fix problems, and to improve future reports. It is not used to build personal profiles of individual readers.

Information you choose to provide.

If you email Wattalife. Email content sent to Ellery@Wattalife.com is read and may be replied to. Email content is never shared, sold, or added to any list without clear consent. Reader emails inform research; they don’t become content unless the sender chooses to be on the record. Email content is retained as long as it remains useful for ongoing research or correspondence and is deleted on request.

If you subscribe to the newsletter. The email address you provide is used only to send Wattalife reports and related communications. It is stored with the email-service provider Wattalife uses (such as MailerLite, ConvertKit, or a comparable service), is never sold or shared, and can be removed by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by emailing the address above.

Cookies and similar technologies.

Wattalife uses cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Essential functionality — making the site work correctly across pages and visits.
  • Analytics — understanding how the site is used in aggregate (typically via a service such as Google Analytics).
  • Affiliate tracking — identifying when a reader clicks an affiliate link and signs up or purchases through it.
  • Advertising, where applicable — if Wattalife displays advertising via Google AdSense or a similar network, those services use cookies to deliver relevant ads. Readers can control how those services use information through the relevant provider’s controls.

Most browsers allow readers to control or refuse cookies. Refusing some cookies may affect site functionality.

Third-party services.

Wattalife uses third-party services that may collect information from readers, including web hosting (the platform serving the site), analytics (such as Google Analytics), email service providers (for the newsletter), advertising networks (such as Google AdSense, where applicable), and affiliate networks (which use cookies to track referrals). Each of these services has its own privacy policy describing what they collect and how. Wattalife shares only what is necessary for those services to function and does not sell reader information to anyone.

Your rights.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information held about you, including:

  • The right to know what personal information is held
  • The right to request a copy of that information
  • The right to request correction of inaccurate information
  • The right to request deletion of your information
  • The right to opt out of certain uses, such as the sale of personal information (Wattalife does not sell personal information)
  • The right to unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time

Children’s privacy.

Wattalife is intended for adult readers and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided personal information through this site, please contact Ellery@Wattalife.com and the information will be deleted promptly.

Updates to this policy.

This privacy policy is updated as Wattalife’s practices, third-party services, or applicable laws change. The “last updated” date at the bottom of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page for a reasonable period.
